Dear Mama,
I remember when you would sit on my bed...
Staring at your silhouette in the dark until I fell asleep.
When you would walk me to school holding my hand.
When you would hold me so close when either of us would weep.
I remember when you would give me all I could ever need.
Freedom to choose, freedom to believe...
In whatever path should tempt me I would succeed...
There was a sensitivity you embedded in me.
I watched as you sacrificed your own needs...
As a young woman raised a big family.
Where we all took you for granted...
Where we all tested your loyalty.
Your dreams faded and past while we grew so fast.
Many times no one knew that your heart was lost.
We got on with our own lives as you were left alone...
With an unanswered emptiness as your unfair cost.
As I've grown I have learnt to be thankful for all that I've had.
Especially whats inside that I was gifted from you and my Dad.
There are qualities I have that I have got from you both...
And memories that live on like a groundhog day of Ghosts.
I want to thank you for all you gave.
For making me have the heart I have.
For showing me unconditional love...
For the strength I never knew I had.
When I cannot sleep at night.
Sometimes I still picture you on the end of my bed.
I feel the tenderness you brought to my life.
A peace fills my weary head.
Now it's my turn to be there for you.
Anytime you need me I will be there.
So know that in your darkest hour.
You are never alone I swear.
Dear Mama,
I cannot wave a magic wand for you.
But I can promise that a unconditional love.
Does exist for you.
In the hearts of your children.
You are the blood in our veins that keeps us warm.
I swear I love you just as much today...
As the day that I was born.

I have been writing Poetry since I was a teenager. Now in my late thirties I enjoy it more than ever. I find it a wonderful release and it helps me to free my mind and understand myself and my emotions.
