Dear Life

The Sacrifice

By Stephen LightpenPublished 2 years ago 1 min read

All Father Cockerel ever wanted

From Mother Hen

Is copulation every now and then

A couple seconds or a little more than

Copulation time expended

Father Cockerel dust off ruffled feathers

Left Mother Hen alone to fend for herself

Dear life! You're full of sacrifice.

Mother Hen brooding over her eggs

Six little chicks appear

Father Cockerel was never near

To ever care for their welfare

Mother Hen birthed her six little chicks

Fathered by no Cockerel

All he did was get it done and abandon.

Dear life! You're full of sacrifice.

Mother Hen may starve

Her six little chicks she well fed

Hunting hawk detected

Her six little chicks well defended.

Hidden beneath her sheltering wings

Her six little chicks very well protected

Dear life! You're full of sacrifice.

Domestic barnyard by wild fire swept

Men walking over the ground

Where the fowls were kept

Saw her whole body charred

Mother Hen was burnt to death

One of them kicked her body aside

Six little chicks appear in health

Mother Hen had them all preserved alive

Even at the costly expense of her dear life.

Dear life! You're full of sacrifice.
