Daydreaming

What comes to mind when you think of me?

When you think of me, what do you see first?

What part of me comes to mind when my name is mentioned?

Is it my laugh, my eyes, the crinkles on my forehead when I’m confused

Do you see a colour or hear music?

Is there anything that reminds me of you?

Anything that you walk past on your commute that makes my name ring in your ears

Does your opinion of me change from hour to hour?

Do I mean different things to you at different times of the day?

What do you think of when you say my name and how it feels on your tongue

And what enters your head when someone else says it?

When I’m not around, do you still feel my presence?

Do I even enter your head or do you need prompting

When I think of you, I see sunshine in your hair

I see the half smile you give me in the morning and the way your hands grip your coffee

I find things in every day that remind me of you, things to note and tell you when I’m there

There are scents everywhere that make your name burn in my brain

Every hour of every day is filled with tiny snippets of you

By the end of the it I find myself longing to be with you, near you

And the way your name falls from my lips is so effortless, like simply breathing

When others speak about you my skin prickles

And when you’re not here the emptiness is deafening

But, one singular thought disrupts my daydreaming of you.

When you think of me, what do you see?
