Madness in the Shadows of the Mind

In the stillness of a midnight hour,

A shadow creeps with quiet power,

Walls breathe heavy with secrets kept,

Echoes of those who never slept.

The mirror cracks, a face appears,

With hollow eyes that drown in fears,

A silent scream, a muted plea,

For the wretched soul that cannot flee.

Footsteps tread on shattered glass,

Each crunch a tale of those who pass,

Whispers coil like smoke in air,

Twisted truths that lurk in despair.

A child’s laugh, a mother’s wail,

Both lost in time, a mournful tale,

The cradle rocks with ghostly hands,

Binding the heart in binding bands.

Beneath the bed, the darkness waits,

A creature born of twisted fates,

It licks its lips, it knows your name,

Innocence tainted by the game.

Nightmares paint the waking sky,

Where shadows dance and reason dies,

In the depths where sanity frays,

Reality bends and slips away.

The clock strikes twelve, the hour is late,

The mind unwinds, succumbs to fate,

A prison forged of thoughts unkind,

In the labyrinth where fears unwind.

So close your eyes, but don’t you dream,

For in the dark, the demons scheme,

They whisper truths that twist and turn,

In the fire of madness, you’ll forever burn.

Author's Note:

Dark Voices invites readers into the chilling embrace of nighttime fears and the haunting echoes of the past. This poem captures the essence of darkness, where shadows become alive with whispered secrets and the weight of unspoken tales. Each stanza reflects a journey through psychological terror, exploring themes of isolation, innocence lost, and the insidious nature of fear that creeps into our minds during the quiet hours.

The imagery of mirrors, broken glass, and ghostly hands serves as metaphors for our inner struggles and the haunting presence of unresolved traumas. The contrast between childlike laughter and mournful cries illustrates the fragile boundary between innocence and horror, emphasizing how memories can shape our fears.

As you read, I encourage you to confront your own shadows and consider the hidden truths that lurk in your own darkness. May this poem serve as a reminder that sometimes the scariest monsters are those we create within ourselves. Thank you for joining me on this exploration of the eerie and the unknown.
