Daniel and the Dream

Daniel and the Dream
lyric by David Jeffrey Scoggins and Julia O'Hara
(Verse 1)
Awoke to patterns on the wall,
Sunlight dancing through the garden’s call.
Shadows moved like whispered breath,
Time was tilted, light unsaid.
Eight o’clock, the morning still,
But I didn’t know the day, or if it was real.
October air, my old domain,
Though I’d been elsewhere, lost in rain.
(Verse 2)
Daniel watched me from the bed,
Eyes like stars, soft and red.
I tried to move, but stayed inside,
My body still, my thoughts alive.
This must be the dream, I said,
The house, the light, the cat, the thread.
The world spun on, but I just lay,
Gazing into Daniel’s gaze.
(Chorus)
Push-push on my chest,
A rhythm known, a sacred rest.
I almost touched a thought, then lost,
A memory adrift, a gentle cost.
The veil was thin, the silence deep,
I drifted down into the sleep.
And waves began to roll and rise,
A different world behind my eyes.
(Verse 3)
I woke upon a beach so wide,
Orange and blue beneath my side.
A pink umbrella overhead,
Its fabric worn, its colors spread.
Sand in hair, the ocean’s kiss,
The breeze a hymn, the moment bliss.
My mother’s voice, a lullaby,
“You’ve played too hard, now close your eyes.”
(Bridge)
I was eight, and I was whole,
A child again, a timeless soul.
Daniel’s eyes, my mother’s hand,
Two guides across the shifting sand.
Between the dream and waking shore,
I found the place I’d been before.
Not past, not future, not in between—
But in the breath of what is seen.
(Final Chorus)
Push-push on my chest,
A rhythm known, a sacred rest.
I almost touched a thought, then lost,
A memory adrift, a gentle cost.
The veil was thin, the silence deep,
I drifted down into the sleep.
And waves began to roll and rise,
A different world behind my eyes.
(Outro)
Daniel waits where dreams begin,
In morning light and ocean wind.
I walk the line where time dissolves,
And love, not logic, solves it all.
