dance

he's been watching me and i know it

but i've been a dancing fool to the music

started feeling melodies in my head

can't plan for this kind of perfect ending

when he takes me dancing all night long

until every time the sun comes back

some more again when it goes away

i lean in and whisper, "dance!" in his ear

so only he will know what i said to him

even if it's no secret that i want to groove

one look at the two left shoes on my feet

smiling, politely, he declines my hand

but just one dance can't hurt i plea

i turn and he follows me to the floor

a crowd stares as we writhe and seize

the beats in rhythmic undulations

an actually uncontrollable tantrum

we time it to the music and call it art

like everybody doesn't know already

it isn't worse just because it's raining
