Cutting Ties

Harshly

It’s hard, it really is.

We all do it, we all hold on too long. To things better left behind. Relationships included. Not forgotten, just dismissed.

Dismissed, relegated to an area of little impact. That old car now parked behind the barn to rot away.

Relationships are harder, we fear the hurt. To others and ourselves. Even if we know we’d be better off.

Eventually though their poison becomes too much, their attacks too many. Never apologizing for their actions, always waiting for others to hold out the olive branch to them. Never taking responsibility for their actions, their shortcomings in their behavior.

Til one day it boils over, and now it’s done, badly. You’ve just been pushed too far. Tired of their attacks you lash out and cut that tie that should have been released long ago. When they should have been let go to drift away harmlessly.

The immediate repercussions, though painful will eventually fade. The long term benefits will out weigh the sadness of a lost relationship.

Even when it’s your brother.
