Crystal Castle
A fantasy story poem

Trudging through the heavy snow,
All bundled up against the cold.
The wind bites through my woolen scarf
Yet, on I go. She’s there, I’m told.
*
Will I see her wings of white?
Will she honor my wish tonight?
*
I feel exertion taking hold.
My body aches, I want to rest,
And then the castle comes in view.
Reenergized, I proceed my quest.
*
Frigid spires touch the clouds.
Flurried snowflakes blur the air.
Frosty windows, brightly lit
Are signs the Winter Fairy’s there.
*
Crown of silver, wings of white
Will she honor my wish tonight?
*
With fingers numb, my knock is weak.
Yet I am welcomed, ushered in.
And there she sits, upon her throne
With snowy hair and porcelain skin.
*
She nods and smiles and beckons me.
I shuffle forward nervously
And shyly share my heart’s desire.
She’s my last hope. She must agree.
*
Crown of silver, wings of white
Will she honor my wish tonight?
*
She blinks her eyes and magically,
I’m back inside my parent’s place.
I rush to find my sick Mom well,
Healed by the Winter Fairy’s grace.
*
I rush outside, look to the north
And yell, “My thanks to you, dear Queen.”
And as I stand there, stupefied,
Aurora lights shine opaline.
*
Winter Fairy, snowy sprite,
Thanks for all you’ve done tonight.
