Cry of the Coyote
Fiona Howell
A long high-pitched note
tears through the night
and the patches of freezing rain.
Through the parting clouds
the full moon lights
the way upon the snow
for the pack as it runs through
the woods between the trees.
The band has killed and
must howl for the sacrifice.
Their eerie cry is the only
chorus of the night.
