Crunchy Powder

A Frosted Verse

Golden rays radiate glittering pathways

between the slow sways of the evergreens.

The Lapis lazuli lake smiles back at the sun

with yellow, contoured shadows casted

by the rhythmic Indian Swampweed.

Wildlife footprints form chaotic formations

of order within the multiple layers of crunchy powder.

Hour-by-hour, the jubilant procession of power

leads to the water’s edge, where the exuberant animals

lace up their skates and pull their younglings on homemade sleds.

It’s when the falling ice softens into fluffy flakes,

I am finally able to witness gravity’s flaws.

The quietness of winter’s beauty follows

its own jurisdiction of naturalistic laws.
