Take my hand, walk with me
Fear not, as we journey upon a descent
I am leading you in to a tunnel, below
Alas, the tunnel will introduce you to unknown
Nonetheless, it is extremely well known
It will reckon you to unfamiliar, quite intimately
Gradually, this descending tunnel will grow weary
Many new and foreign acquaintances, you will discover
Leave you or forsake you, I shall not, be assured
Although, you may feel alone and abandoned, within
Fear will greet you with a standing ovation
Anxiety will welcome you to nip at its table
Pain will brush your hair, suddenly, till your scalp is wanting
Loss of appetite will keep you full, to the brim
Nausea peeks underneath, rising, to plunge at your battle
Nearby each winding bend, infection, happily stamps its smear
Take heart, regardless of this descending tunnel….
Bridging the descent to the exit, there awaits Light
At Light’s right hand side, expectation inspires you to Hope
There waiting patiently, belief bows at your entrance
Courage cheers gracefully at your determination and valour
Faith adorns you with acclaim and approval, notably
Trust, in awe of your reliance, your certainty, ushers you
Tenacity, thrilled that you poised it into your journey
Love, in the midst of this celebration, shone in admiration
In the brilliance of Light, the tunnel now far behind, in view
Reserved for you, alone, decorated, endorsed, the Crown of Cancer
Though the descent tried to conquer, you conquered the descent
Though the tunnel was long and winding, you fought the fight
Though the Crown is dubbed with Cancer, it is a testimony
Evidence of your story, your plight, your journey, your victory.
