Crossing The Border

As Submitted To The Lantern Light Challenge

By Marc OBrienPublished 3 months ago 2 min read

Lantern light

Shining bright

Shepherding a guarding knight

Magically it glows

And shows

Who strangers are

Travelling away and far

Monitoring with care

Not supposed to feel scared

Would they even dare?

Cross over, invade their neighbors lair?

Where?

They share

Secrets told

By wiser who are old

And once stood out in the cold

With a lantern making them bold

Empowered saying, ‘never going to fold’

Defending themselves from the questionable other side

Where everyone asks, ‘why?’

Suddenly a car

Underneath the enchanting stars

Illuminating painful security scars

Come to a stop

Respectfully visits the border cops

“Please wait

We must get things straight”

Protectors command

While warming in a small stand

Heated by a flowing fan

Shooting baskets, using a garbage can

“Giants we are not

But what we do got

A lantern which is a lot”

Revealing truth

They decide, leave the triangle roof

“So, you are here to cause problems

If yes, we got them”

“No just courting a love

Peaceful like a dove.”

“I know you Mister

You are coming to see my sister”

Mentioned the brother in arms

Seeing right through the guest's charm

And the cologne smelling like a barn

After working a day on the farm

“Pick these flowers for my dream miss

Do not worry we will not kiss”

Which made the soldier check his list

Given to him by his younger sis

“Let him through

My sister wants to say ‘I do’”

But before the bachelor disappeared

Patrol officers had no fear

Since his sibling hooked the bait

Accepting a social date

Hoping the companionship would be great

Letting him exclaim

About the crossing the border game

“Let me give you one final warning

In the morning

When the lantern dims

And you know you sinned

Your four wheels

May need a jumper cable deal

Sparks could flicker

Stopping your broken heart ticker

Since it will be said

Your romance could be found dead

Unless you plan to wed

My sis, living on her side

Believing the lantern is still her guide”
