Crimson Calligraphy

Stages of Life

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished 3 years ago Updated 3 years ago 1 min read

Tara Jean stored a plethora of treasures in her

Tiny OshKosh© overall pockets,

But her favorite gem was her crimson red crayon

Tara could never resist a blank canvas

Especially undecorated walls somewhere in the house

Tara Jean’s mother had had enough

Cleaning and painting over the scribbles

Of her daughter's childish art

Felt like a full-time job

But Tara didn’t care about the consequences

She knew her mama would be mad

Crimson calligraphy covered the walls

She was making art, expressing herself

Sharing her joy and happiness

Crimson calligraphy

Crimson calligraphy

Scrawled across the bedroom wall

In huge two foot high letters

“This is good-bye for good! I’m leaving you!”

Where it could not be missed

Tara Jean had had enough

She used her favorite lipstick

Dior Rouge that he gave her for her birthday

She’d never wear that color again

She was done with the cheating

She was done with the forgiving.

No more tears, no more drinking

Crimson calligraphy covered the walls

Tara was saying good-bye

Expressing her frustration and anger

Crimson calligraphy

Crimson calligraphy

The smell of sulphur filled the room

The explosive sound from the tiny

Pawnshop 45 pistol

Still echoing in the room

At 72, Tara Jean had had enough

A lifetime of trying, and a lifetime of crying

And feeling so alone

No more frustration and no more tears,

Just the promise and beauty of nothingness

Splattered across the living room walls

Crimson calligraphy that will be painted over in time

Tara Jean’s final piece of art

Expressing herself for the last time

Crimson calligraphy

Crimson calligraphy covered the walls
