Creatures in Wrong Habitat

We need a place where the body and mind thrives

Autumn dusk

A cottontail rabbit

emerges from the

boxwood thickets,

to nibble on the lawn

in my neighborhood.

Concrete and paved

driveway, and sidewalks,

asphalt streets lined

with enormous SUVs—

wildlife seems

an odd presence here.

The vehicles

loom like cruel monsters,

capable of crushing

any distracted life.

We've seen carcasses—

gruesome and unnecessary.

Rabbits should be

in a lush meadow,

munching wildflowers,

living in a warren,

with their own fluffle—

safe and secure,

away from chemicals,

scary vehicles,

anything lethal!

Not only rabbits,

but many of us

are trapped

in the wrong habitat.

We must admit it—

we need change!

Something harmonious with

our body and mind.
