Cracked Glass

poem about contemplating coming-out

By Remi AkersPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

You watch as the sun turns the snow to glass.

You avoid its scalding gaze but you’re dying to ask

Where the sun gets its magic from,

For it never sleeps when the night comes.

As you envision your greatest plot twist,

You wonder what it’d be like to exist

And not be questioned about the way you are.

You dream up a life inside your head, someplace far.

Desperate for a way to prevail,

You place the bigotry and loneliness on a scale.

Do the benefits outweigh the cost?

Will you lose yourself or face the frost?

Put on your coat and lock the door;

I hope you find something worth living for.
