Country gone

Country boy

By James Jenkins Published 4 years ago 1 min read

Country boy dreaming of fame,

To young to know better,

Old enough to chase the magic of dreams.

Faded blue jeans and a beat up six string,

Small town innocence run down by big city schemes.

Traveled down south with twenty dollars and a dime,

Kissed momma on the cheek when she began to cry.

One day maybe he will touch the stars he's been reaching for,

Country boy, country strong, he will be playing and singing till he dies.

Bye bye momma,

Goodbye.

Honky tonk promises get broken every now and then,

Somewhere between straight bourbon lies,

And to many easy one night stands.

Neon beams thru smoke rings,

Down home tunes, aching hearts and lipstick stains.

Back alley dives to run down saloons in one horse towns,

On the road everyone is a stranger pretending to be a friend.

Daddy always said anything worth having don't come easy,

That boy will keep playing the game till he wins.

He don't know momma,

Don't know how to go home again.

Sunset at the crossroads boy,

How bad do you want it, how far will you go.

Are you tired of reaching for those dreams,

Do you still want to be a star.

To much pride to turn around,

Grown to much for that far away home.

Faded jeans and broken strings,

Don't let your mamma down.

Keep singing and playing like only you know how,

Even the devil digs your sound.

South of heaven, north of hell,

Never forget where you began.

Always remember daddy and momma,

The love you found in that small town.

Boy you got the music in your soul,

You made the big time,

Everyone knows your name,

U caught those dreams u been chasing,

So very long on that lonely road.

Hold on tight,

Don't ever let em go.

If you catch them,

Even if you don't,

Never stop reaching,

Never stop believing,

Always know son,

When your tired and worn from to long on the road,

When u can't go on.

Momma still loves you,

Her and daddy's still waiting back home.
