Contemplating Christmas Spirit
Some Free Verse Poetry
Contemplating Christmas Spirit
With snowflakes on the trees,
and frost covering the grass,
Winter’s icy grip takes hold
***
reminding me that life is bold,
and finding gold is never easy,
even beneath the Christmas tree.
***
Tomorrow, we’ll look for love among strangers,
kindness in distracted crowds,
in search of the authentic smile
included on the list.
***
I warm my soul with chicken soup,
as the winds rattle the windows,
and my simple spirit.

This began as a Villanelle, but became something else, proving that words cannot always be wrangled into form – or maybe I just suck. I will call this a Free Verse poem instead.
You are free to take these words, or your version of this idea, and make it into a Villanelle. Show me how you would write it!
Thanks for reading!
