Comic Relief

a free verse poem

There was a cartoon of bison

with their heads and arms stuck

through pillowy, puffy numerals.

Yes, such as 4, or 8, but anyway,

the caption read:

Buffalo used to roam the plains

in large numbers.

Or something of that sort.

Opposite, a headline starkly stated:

North Korea Launches Missiles Toward

the Northern Marianas Islands.”

I laughed.

The buffalo were in large numbers.

Funny how our minds "see" things. I love to read very old newspaper articles...started doing that while researching ancestors, great source, btw.

This had me double checking whether bison and buffalo meant the same thing - now I feel silly living in the prairies. Fun piece Randy!
