Comfort In My Words

Sometimes, It's All I Got

By Misty RaePublished 3 years ago β€’ 1 min read
Me, age 5

A tiny orphan without a hope,

Misunderstood,

Never fitting in.

Different,

Separate.

One of these kids is not like the other.

A White face in a Black crowd

A Black face in a White town

But she had her words.

An angsty teen,

Unlike the rest,

A love of the written word.

Geek.

Nerd.

Not cool like us,

On the sidelines looking in,

Dejected, rejected,

But she had her words.

Scribbles on paper,

The object of her shame.

Poetry.

Prose.

A broken heart,

On tear-stained sheets.

But she had her words.

A mid-life swan,

She came into her own,

Confident,

Beautiful.

One of these women is not like the other.

It doesn't matter anymore,

Because she had her words.

That little baby girl,

Writes.

She expresses love,

She gives it back.

Comfort,

Joy,

In all those words.

You certainly have a place now! But, I don't imagine that you NEED to fit in...more like - a lead the way personality. So glad you shared this

I can’t imagine you a nerd with all that Sassiness but I understand the feeling of not fitting in ,the poem convey. It was hard being mix with no role model back then , been in that feeling just like your poem . β™₯️🌹🫢🏽

Your sincerity, angst and triumph pour out through this. ❀

  • Beautiful, yet painfully sad at the same time. Your poem brought tears to my eyes, and the way you have used your pictures tells a story of a young fighter who grew up struggling but strong enough to make something of herself.

This is beautiful, and as weird as this may sound, it's a comfortable read. Hope that makes sense. Well done.

  • I love how this flows beautiful words
