She took a deep breath and boldly deep dove into the answer.
“Blue”, she said, a twinkle forming in her eyes of that color.
“Because blue is so dark it’s almost black, as seen on the backs of grounded crows.
Because blue is the inky depths of anchored sadness where all is heavy, and light will not, cannot enter, nor escape.
But….it’s also the light brightness of a Caribbean holiday.
Expansive sky blues that kiss aquamarine tranquil seas where nothing bad ever happens.
It’s all the moods," she said defiantly. Proudly. "That’s why I’m team blue.”
"Orange!", she sang as her eyes widened as much as her smile.
“Because it’s bright and happy and so creative”
Her orange Mac Book was open and mostly obscuring the giant sunflower tattoo she had on her shoulder.
But I knew it was there.
Just like sunflowers know where the sun is.
Her burnt lava Irish locks framed her smile, punctuated on either side by the diamonds she used to pierce her dimples.
Like most radiant sunshine, she refused to be ignored.
So wonderfully orange of her.
For me, though, it’s green.
Lush, vibrant, lively, life giving, life sustaining, power-breathing green.
The infinitely nuanced shades delight the most mindful of observers.
The concept of infinitely nuanced shades of anything delights the most casual of philosophers.
Friends and family are shades of green.
All of the yet unmet loved ones too.
Every stranger with whom we won’t get even get the chance to high-five in this life…
All green.
Desires, fears, ambitions, loves, lusts, and television program preferences…
All green
Subtly varying shades of forever; never repeating identically.
I am not unique in training my thoughts to seek unity among humanity; by comparing us all to green, amongst other ways.
But something about the particular way I do it is.
For I am completely and totally unique….
Just like everybody else.
