Staring in the mirror
My reflection gazing back
I see me in bold colors
Reds and oranges of untainted power
Indigos that shock and excite the senses
Overloading the brain
with every enticing hue
Until I'm conscious only of my being
Acknowledging all the love
So rich and pure and dominant
And my granny says my soul
is kente patterned
Comprised of all the rays of the sun
Colors speaking loud and confident
Like the drums found in all the places
they make me want to go
Traveling for no other purpose
but to discover traces of my footprints
across lands of mahogany still striving
to mimic the skin I wear so well
Reflecting every shade of promise
That accentuat all the flows of yearning
I can see me
In potent tones of brilliance
Of aesthetic affluence
Of grace
And awe
And coolness
Every color of potential
Tints of the wisdom that's shaped me in truth
The omnipresent colors
of abstract belonging
I see me
Everywhere!
Boldly
