Color Blind

What are your true colors?

I pulled out a shirt today

Of which I have many colors

Green, my favorite hue

Deep pine, for Christmas season

I was pleased with my selection

I even adorned it with a festive scarf with white

Snowmen on a red background

I went about my day happily

Until I looked at my sleeve

Shocked to see I had apparently picked out a gray shirt

How could I have mistaken the color?

I wanted it to be green, my favorite color

Dark and woodsy like a Christmas pine

Evoking the excitement of the holiday season

Instead, I picked gray

Hard and unapproachable

Dark like an ominous castle wall

It was an illusion my mind created

Like the love I wanted you to have for me

Next time, I will look more closely

Next time, I won't create colors that aren't there

Just because I want them to be

love poems
