Caspar David Friedrich, "Winter Landscape," 1811
Some of you were spared by the vicious axe!
How clearly I remember dreaming here
When no tongue admonished me to relax
Your warm, green shadows shielded me from fear

The study of your branches changed my eyes
Guiding them from things to ideas grand;
What plans your deep, strong roots helped me devise
Thus, old yesterday lends today a hand

With you, wrinkled and stooped, I still belong
We have all weathered tempests’ cruel spite
Not one of us will stand for very long
But seeing you again grants me delight

For you held up my boyhood, summer sky
And now, winter has come for you and I
About the Creator
D. J. Reddall
I write because my time is limited and my imagination is not.

You have such a talent with these ekphrastic pieces, always adding a depth of plot and striking character voice to accompany the visual art! Really enjoyed this one!
Oh wow, this was so profound. Loved it!
