Codependent Clauses

Subordinates at Work

By Gerard DiLeoPublished 6 months ago Updated 6 months ago 1 min read
Honorable Mention in Somewhere Between Here and There Challenge

From here to there, the subject and verb

Seek to complete an action in thought

Of object, direct, or nothing disturbed

The commas will rule when festooning what's wrought

*

Subject and verb inserted between same

Add detail to the sense of the story so told

Even an appositive, set off as a name

Can add to the facts that more precisely unfold

*

Adjectives and adverbs, forgoing conjunctions

Anchored by mere commas or dashes—called Em

Will cite how, when, why, and even dysfunction

To modify the facts when applied to them

*

The clauses between words hold backstories unheard

If you miss all the slanted lines underneath

In the sentence diagrammed in schemata of words

And miss life between sharp s'words otherwise sheathed

.

The road to the period can be stark and uncluttered

Losing all music and melody of diction

Clauses punctuate the sensibilities uttered

And can oil a change to agreement from friction

.

Even brackets can embrace independently

An afterthought, alluding a parenthetical aside

Even ellipses can replace co-dependently

A colorful metaphor insidiously astride

.

Do not eschew the ornate and pedantic

Plant those sentiments between the words with pauses

Be, say I, unashamed of semantics

It's AI, so blamed, if it comes without clauses

My favorite Class was English. I really liked sentence diagramming. It was fun and the longer the sentence the intricate it got. It was like geometric art. Good job.

  • Witty, rhythmic, and grammatically glorious! You’ve managed to turn clauses and punctuation into poetic characters with voice and charm. A delightful ode to the unsung heroes of syntax—thank you for making grammar feel like art. ✍️✨

That final line is gobsmackingly brilliant Gerard. Loved how playful you employ sentence diagraming to come up with your own Turing Test! I loved it!
