Cockerel Quarrel On Even Ground

Living Legacy of Every Love Bird

By Stephen LightpenPublished 2 years ago 1 min read

Two dirty cockerel summoned to bid,

One lengthy quarrel for six corn seed.

As two to two footed stampede,

For two broken beaks to feed on greed.

Two wattles on one battle line drawn,

For two red comb with so much blood drawn.

Two times two wings multiply flapping sound!

As four corn seed fly; nowhere to be found.

Two corn seed left on ground,

As two dirty cockerel think profound;

Each taking two steps background:

From lengthy quarrel to gain ground,

For negotiating peaceful terms;

Even on even ground...

Where wattle battle walk is lost,

And peace talk is found.

One corn seed each for every one,

Or each and everyone left with none.

Feed to live or live to feed easily

Just to leave and let's live peaceably.

I saw this rare light under the sun;

Just to learn this real life lesson.

To feed on greed is to dine, and die_

With belly bursting....

To feed your greed is to leave and live_

With belly empty;

Yes there is hateful death in tearing:

A selfish devouring of common food.

Yet, there is lively love in sharing:

A selfless devotion to common good.
