Summer Through the Window

She sits and watches the seasons change through the year

And watches the downys, the sapsuckers, the flickers, woodpeckers all

Enthused with nature's display of color and the bird songs she hears

From Winter to Spring to Summer and then back to Fall

The primroses are lovely she notes and peonies in full bloom

But the irises and azaleas are far past their full glory, far past their peak

And she remembers when she could tend them, plant and prune

And work in the potting soil before her legs grew so weak

Despite this, with substantial help from her lawn man John

She revels in the coming of Spring and Summer days

And watches change through her window as seasons move on

Pleased that past plantings sprout and preen in the sun as always

Though failing legs have conspired with age to keep her inside

Her eyes, mind, and hearing, through the window, are all outside

inspirational
