Cleansing

Call it a cleansing, the way I donated and discarded the memories of ghosts long gone;

they don't need to live in my closet anymore, laid to rest in cardboard caskets

before I reached a point of letting go, or at least not forgetting they were buried there.

Good-byes have never been so easy, but I suppose that's what happens when it finally settles in —

the magic is in rebuilding, in freedom, in the calm that comes with moving on.
