Christianity’s Hard
Take Up Your Cross

This road that I travel’s exceedingly hard
I’m Christian and carry a “membership card”
It’s etched in my heart, I’m no longer my own
I answer to Jesus, and Jesus alone
When people tell lies and they slander my name
Since I’m living different I won’t do the same
Because of conversion I watch how I speak
With slander I’ll offer them my other cheek
While true, any goodness I have is from God
I freely admit that I’m heavily flawed
Though some aren’t exactly what I had in mind
I’ll always be cordial and try to be kind
Thank God there’s no witness to thoughts in my head
The various ways that I’ve rendered some dead
See, I’m still imperfect, I’m human for sure
I’m “under construction,” not fully mature
The road that I travel is narrow indeed
I don’t do tobacco, no swearing, no weed
I date only Christians and won’t sleep around
I’m helped from within by a mystery profound

I love how you weave spirituality so beautifully into your work. You are such a wonderful light! 💡
Always a joy to read your rhymes. So many great lines to resonate with. I think this one made me think the most. -See, I’m still imperfect, I’m human for sure I’m “under construction,” not fully mature- Well said and is a basic truth for all of us whether we can admit it or not!
