Chocolate

and Desire

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished 3 years ago Updated 2 years ago 1 min read

Love is like that large

Bittersweet bar of chocolate

You bought as a future treat for yourself

in Switzerland last summer

It’s fervently calling your name

Compelling you to stalk the drawer

Where you have it hidden

You crave it constantly

You desire it desperately

You pick it up and smell its sweet aroma

And yet you know,

The moment you give in

To the sin of desire and consumption

Once you open that wrapper

And let the dark flavors soothe your tastebuds

And waken your soul

You will find yourself

Drowning in the bitterness and

Creamy deliciousness

Of sated desire

The want is suddenly gone.

It’s over

And like love

Reality is often bitter and sharp

But anticipation is always sweet

What descriptive imagery! Though love can hopefully last longer than a chocolate bar.
