Childhood

Summer Sonnet

By Shannon O'FlahertyPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

The sun caresses my young smiling face

Under the sweeping cloudless blue sky

Young boys bat balls and run to home base

I swing for hours and dream I can fly

Fragrant honeysuckle wafts up my nose

Butterflies perch on wild yellow flowers

Fresh cut grass sticks to my bare toes

Long summer days no threat of spring showers

Ice cream melodies spark my senses

Bravely I jump from my seat at great height

Parents play witness sitting on benches

Around my mouth popsicle delight

Sat on a jungle gym shaped like a spider

My best friend waits so I climb up beside her
