Chasing Lightning
on feeling complete shock after running into something stupid on purpose
When blood filled my eyes and my ears
and the ringing began to
split my head like the trees
all around me, cracking and
moaning
I knew that's what I deserved
for chasing lightning.
There's no catching it.
-
I've stood here, rooted where I was struck
and would you know when it hit me
I was face to the sun
I smiled and I soaked it up
my eyes flitting with electricity;
I had been wearing anything to connect me.
-
And then, I held my breath
for the fumes, my lips turned blue
and I knew I followed you
a little too far, uprooted myself
just to follow through
-
When my eyes and ears filled with blood,
I knew.
But, it was so beautiful,
and I felt it in my chest
all the way from my feet.
Rumbling, and beating, and striking,
and clashing.
What a show.
-
Roll on.
