I long for those days of my childhood memories

Though they seemed long, they flew by so fast

The ones that nurtured my heart and my dreams

*

Where the ones that I loved, were all there with me

Like a movie scene, and we were the cast

I long for those days of my childhood memories

**

I know things weren't perfect, so don't think me, naive

But as long as we were together we helped the hurts pass

The ones that nurtured my heart and my dreams

***

Today I look back and wonder how it could be

I'm missing something I fear, I'll never get back

I long for those days of my childhood memories

****

Give me the treasures that don't cost a thing

That today seem, cannot be amassed

The ones that nurtured my heart and my dreams

*****

I will try to preserve the love that was given to me

The kind my daughters can count on to last

I long for those days of my childhood memories

The ones that nurtured my heart and my dreams

******

If you are feeling disconnected and want a feel of "remember when" take a peek at this.....

Oh, how we should have listened to Carol.

YAAY it's a villanelle 😄 I love how you recall your childhood and the ones you love — a movie where they became the cast. Ooo I love the sassiness in the naive bit. I long for... When it got to the fourth tercet. My heart melted and I started to long for... Along with you. Then it got to the quatrain and I am very close to tears. Oh how amazing this was. Amazingly sad, yet beautiful 🤗❤️

Your poem brings a lot of memories to my mind as well. I remember that Carol song too. This is when I go to my old photo albums and just look and remember.
