Captain's Log
Villanelle Poem
I sang a song once on my mast.
The ship I stalked; I lead neutrally.
On my way to the dark vast.
-
Countless moons our ship blew past.
Our many ventures went on fruitlessly.
I sang a song once on my mast.
-
When I heard the first-mate passed.
I didn’t spare a penny for his eulogy.
On my way to the dark vast.
-
When we were damaged from a blast.
My crew saw their opportunity.
I sang a song once on my mast.
-
The boys were done with being harassed.
I did not hear the whisper of mutiny.
On my way to the dark vast.
-
I struggled and screamed but turned up last.
There they hung me, beaten brutally.
I sang a song once on my mast.
On my way to the dark vast.

You create a hauntingly beautiful tale using a villanelle, combining the allure of the sea with the poignancy of a captain's dying moments.
Darkly sad, but lovely. Congrats.
