Cabaret

Free Verse

Photograph: mine

Red coral beads on a long strand

Wind around my neck

Amaranth spotlights wash away

All trace of imperfection

Brass gleams as tuba bellows out

Russet notes; reverberations

Intertwine with your crooning voice

Liquid limbs sway to sweet swing beats

Melancholy minor chords

Softly lodge inside my throat

Cherry-loaded swallow

Try not to choke on vintage grief

Resonating along past cadences

Of theatre limelight

How I wish I could be back on stage

Lively stepping to choreographed numbers

Ruby lips pinned in Cheshire grin

Carbon copy lines of vibrant girls

Kicking sky high in scarlet heels

Carmine-tipped fingers

Sensually encircle sister wrists

Beads of sweat build beneath fringe hems

Glitter and salt; tantalizing allure

Ambiguous patron silhouettes

Draped in vermillion shadows

Will dream sweet dreams tonight

Graceful bow to curtain black

Night’s opera is best

Dressed in red

Wow, felt like I was being swept away into a dance, haha! This is a beautiful poem, Marie. Feels otherworldly. I hope you get back on the stage soon (if that's what you want, lol). And again, another great photo! Now I know you're the best photographer in the world, all these amazing photos check out 😁

  • Oh wow, you're super talented! I can't dance to save my life, lol. Anyway, you don't do this anymore?

Wow so surreal. Love the way you describe the mood in your poem.
