epistolary notion

Dear D.,
I never know where to
begin.
Is “Dear”
just arbitrary,
or a true
active choice?
In any case
seems I’ve started here.
It seems we both
have started, are
already pressing against
the blank margins
of anticipations
and expectations.
Ah, there’s the rub;
yes, no?
Completely
personal
the physical
and existential:
like fingers
tracing vital lines
dotting essential “i’s”
gliding, eliding
coming and going
full tilt full circle
but still not yet
arrived.
All depends,
you said, much on
“similarities
that attract, differences
that make it interesting.”
But, I never know where to
begin.
Sincerely, M.
