Burning You Away

A Poem

Snip, snip, snip.

Each piece of fabric falls,

Right into the pit.

***

A month of you haunting me.

My phone, my socials, my mind.

I’m done with it.

***

The moon shines bright,

And a warm breeze blows,

As I scatter the rest of you.

***

I read the piece of paper,

The paper you had me write on,

The paper of things to talk about.

***

I grab the bottle off the dry grass.

Opening it up, the scent hits my nose.

Ah, the fuel sings to me.

***

I squirt the liquid on the remnants of your clothes,

The paper, the necklace,

Anything reminding me of you.

***

I set the match alight,

My mouth curving upward,

And toss it into the pit.

***

The flame ignites everything,

The air heating up around me,

Smiling as the weight of you is lifted off me.

Sometimes burning the bridge is the only option we have left. Beautiful work.
