Burning Bridges
A poem
You’ve accused me of burning bridges,
but you handed me the match.
The fires of all your betrayals,
are what caused the match to catch.
It’s not really hard to burn,
structures made of torn paper.
Our entire friendship,
just dissipated like vapor.
You built me up to be something rotten,
but you’re buried in your own lies.
You cannot even hold yourself accountable,
little lord of the flies.
You could have buried the matchbook,
and build our bridge stronger.
Yet you still supplied me the match,
because you couldn’t keep up the facade any longer.
So I’m building foundations for better bridges,
ones built of concrete & stone.
Ones who won’t burn our connections,
a monster left alone.

Wow such a masterpiece
Great poem, Josey. Liked the realisation and defiance of it and taking the metaphor and making it literal works really well.
