Build them up
A poem about supporting fellow writers by Edina Jackson
The screen glows, another story unfolds.
A hesitant share in the quiet of the group.
My fingers hover over the keyboard,
not to critique, not to dissect for flaws,
but to offer a gentle hand.
A word of encouragement, a nod to a vivid phrase,
a shared understanding of the lonely hours,
the wrestling with words, the doubt that creeps in.
We are travelers on the same winding road,
each carrying our own maps of imagined worlds.
Why not pause, offer water from our canteen,
point out a promising vista ahead?
Their triumph is not my diminishment.
Their voice adds to the chorus, a richer harmony.
So I type, a small offering of support,
a quiet belief in the power of their pen.
For in lifting others, our own stories gain strength
