Brotha Please

poem of clarity

By Aqeedah Mujahid-GainesPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

Brotha please, excuse me

Don't mind my attitude

As you tell me how to be a woman

Hold up, not tryna be rude

What's the secret way you know the view

Sometime spent wearing women's shoes

if not- oh no, then

how can one propose to do

All the telling you tell a woman to?

Have you ever asked a woman

with no judgement assumed

a random unknown woman

What was her point of view?

Ever asked any woman's point of view

Of what a woman is supposed to do?

Brotha please slow your roll of orders

Slow your assumptions of gender roles

Brotha please practice consideration

Empathy might soothe your soul

Brotha please take a cue

Simmer down let the facts settle

Settle down obvious distinction

We are not the same

we honor equal rights

no way my experience matches yours

no way your experience matches mine

Brotha please stop, so much time wasted

We are two separate souls in this world

just hoping for the same destination
