Broken Lips

Cradled In The Memory

By Kelli Sheckler-AmsdenPublished 3 years ago 1 min read

I have long forgotten the tenderness in your touch,

grown too familiar with the bitterness on your tongue.

I have wanted, but I guess I asked too much,

to sing a song that’s waited to be sung.

****

Still distance spans the universe - of this room,

surrounded by collections - of once upon a time.

Sitting alone here in this place - right next to you,

saddened by the shells we have become

***

I wonder if these calloused hearts will mend,

has hurt and sorrow-prepared and equipped?

Letting pain be the love that we both need,

to kiss the pain away with broken lips.

sad poetry
