Poem on making tough choices

My little dog, Snowball, made her way to the vet for a review of her hip. The young puppy suffered from a vascular necrosis, a condition predisposing her to hip dysplasia (when the ball of the bone, the femur, does not fit into the joint socket).

I was told that she has significant muscle loss on the affected leg, and that her recovery rate should be faster. This left me considering my options and the potential cost of monetary sacrifice.

The question of whether the sacrifice would be worth the outcome played on my mind. And so it is for many situations in life. We wonder it paving the way for desired outcomes is worth the effort.

At present, making a decision involves contemplation of my personal beliefs. The dog's welfare is a top priority. Are there alternative options? Cost is a consideration. Then, of course, we have to consider the impact the therapy will have on the dog and ourselves as well.

My pet is at the apex of the priority pyramid, and I hope that the decision I make will be worth it. Enjoy this sonnet.

A rusty sword, damaged, broken

Tattered, torn from all its work

Achieves, for effort, a small token

Is it worth the perks?

Broken sword with jagged edges

But blade cannot cut

Is there one with sharper ridges

That may slice as much?

New sword tears, at the start

It does touch the soul

But will the blade shutter the heart

And will it leave me whole?

This new sword, although severs

Will it touch the bone?

Will the slice aid the duelists' endeavors

Will it have a tone?

This new blade, slices all

Is it too wide? Is it too small?
