Breaking Up With Depression

Sometimes staying in your comfort zone isn’t good

By River StyxPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

I miss you.

I miss the way you wrapped me up

In the fuzziest blankets

When the nights turned cold.

How you knew when I needed

Hot packs to warm the foot of the bed to go to sleep.

How you were always there.

Always a safe place to return to.

Yeah, you are generally predictable,

But always there to greet me with

My favorite coffee.

I never planned to leave you.

It was going to be a

‘Better dig two’ kind of thing.

Yet,

Here I am.

Here we are.

Untangling from your layers

Of fuzzy blankets

And warm sheets.

I looked out our window and

I saw sunshine.

I saw laughter.

And real love.

And I saw me.

I saw who I really am and

Not who you want me to be.

Someone who left their comfort

And the expectations

While shouting to the world

Who they really are.

All the while,

Know they would still be changing.

So,

This is me

Telling you I’m leaving.

All the while, knowing,

You’ll have a hot pack

Ready for when I visit.
