Bread & Belief

A Poem of Desperation

By Marcelinus ApakhadePublished 2 years ago 1 min read

The troubled mind sees what the troubled eye fails to see.

A harsher truth in hardship's bitter land..

We are God's people, taught to seek divine favor,

But faith falters when suffering holds us in its grip.

How can a man trust in tomorrow's promise,

When hunger gnaws at him, a relentless whip?

The rich grow richer, the poor bear the brunt,

A vicious cycle where only the strong survive.

A hungry man's morals blur in the face of need,

His stomach's growl a plea to simply stay alive.

Society judges the bite of the starved with a flinch,

While the feast of the wealthy goes unnoticed, amiss.
