Brain in a jar

For safe keeping

By Devon JuddPublished 4 years ago Updated 4 years ago 1 min read
Illustration by Daniel Ljunggren for Wizards of the Coast, Magic the Gathering

I took a dip, dropped, and fell

deep into the funk tank

but with a fuzzy antenna

I reach my feelers out just at wavelength to maintain the sane

Then I put my brain in a jar

I fill it with an aqueous dilution

equal parts mixed

love and despair

When my mind matter melts

and gets stuck in the gunk

I gotta place it aside to soak up the junk

I watch it all dissipate into spacey vapor leaking from the top lid puncture

I can’t help but still wonder

“Will this keep me high?”

Ups, downs, and in-betweenness spat out in word doodles, and thought slang, scribbled by whatever feeling called “shotgun” that trip. I’m just along for the ride.
