The nesting crows search

Pieces of home in loose twigs

Knowingly fleeting

Bricks and steel are strong, lasting

But will weigh down—chain—those wings

Tanka is a traditional Japanese poetic form. It consists of five lines with a syllable count of 5-7-5-7-7. Tanka served as a medium for expressing personal feelings, seasonal observations, and reflections on nature and life.
