Born to Be Neglected
Born with no welcome no reaching arms
no lullaby breath no safety alarms
just silence thicker than sleep at dawn
a crib that never felt love put on
Eyes wide open but never met
the gaze that says I won’t forget
a name not whispered a cheek not kissed
a soul on earth but barely missed
Bruises bloom where touch should soothe
the bottle thrown the lie the truth
walls too thin to hold a cry
a child begs quietly to die
Each meal withheld a kind of war
each step toward the locked front door
a lesson in being too much to keep
a burden laid where love should sleep
He made no sound when sirens came
his world already lost to flame
a toy beside him one last friend
no bedtime tale no means to mend
Now metal closes round their hands
no court can fully understand
what damage lives beneath the skin
when cruelty is all that’s been
Some children bloom despite the fire
but he was born to no desire
no one taught him how to live
and no one stayed with love to give
So write his name in quiet stone
a child the world left all alone
unloved unwanted not set free
born to be neglected
buried quietly
Parents jailed for life for his murder
no bargain struck no plea no further
their silence cracked beneath the weight
of truth too monstrous to translate
Now cold walls hold what once ran wild
but cannot bring back that child

Heartbreaking 💔
What a sad yet poignant poem on what happens now in family life at times. Good job.
