A Bibliomaniacal Sonnet

By D. J. ReddallPublished 2 years ago 1 min read

The culture of the codex is fading

Our eyes seek stark screens, not porous pages;

What are neglected novels concealing?

Snubbed by readers, bookish romance rages!

Would Achilles and Anne Shirley get on?

Could Arthur Dent cheer up Ophelia?

Young Werther could turn Beatrice on;

For Lestat, who’d risk necrophilia?

Consider Candide caressed by Circe--

Heathcliff might turn red, touched by Hester Prynne;

While fantasizing with Don Quixote

Anna Karenina would surely grin

Ignored by technophile, human lovers

Characters might mingle under covers!

Sonnet

    I feel like such an uncultured swine for not knowing any of these people 😅 But I loveeeeeeeeee books!

    Ah, I love this. Sometimes I've come across characters in books and have thought, Oh, this protagonist would get along so well with this other one.🤣 I love when I find people who share my imaginations.

    I love this idea, so much to play with.

    Most known, some unknown but great sonnet again. Never read any Goethe. You recommend?
