A bone to pick have I, a skeleton:
Bones do not get the respect they deserve
Could any of you survive without us?
Do you yearn to be an amorphous lump?
Egress from the flesh taught me a great deal
For almost a century, I wore skin
Gasping, I was slain by dread consumption
Hallowed ground was my dark abode for years
It coughed me up at a wizard’s behest
Just when I thought sweet peace was mine for good
Keen to assign me gruesome tasks was he:
Locating artifacts esoteric
Making potions and philters most deadly
Now, he has a fresh, fiendish scheme in mind
Over hill and dale, I must walk by night
Pursuing those who have offended him!
Quests for revenge are always so absurd
Returning an affront invites some more!
Scant days ago, I slew an old warlock
Today, I learned that his son seeks justice
Unending this cycle will surely be
Vexation abides when one cannot die
Wizards are obstinate, paranoid twits
X-rays confirm that I’ve nothing to hide
Years of this are undoubtedly coming
Zounds, I wish he’d left me to lie still!

Enjoyed the jaded tone of the skeleton forced to do a wizard’s dirty work! Great abcedarian, D.J.!
"X-rays confirm that I’ve nothing to hide" Hahahahhahahaha that was brilliant!
This is an amazing and really well done poem. "Over hill and over dale, I must walk at night...." Loved this line so much. Thanks for the "Halloween" chill and bit of laughter.
fantastic! "Could any of you survive without us? Do you yearn to be an amorphous lump?" I laughed out loud at this.
This was great! Ready made for a comedy-horror story
-X-rays confirm that I’ve nothing to hide- 😂 so true! Chilling work on this haunted eve, D.J. And the photo is amazing. Frame it!
Very clever! I enjoyed this immensely!
