Bluebird

for those we have lost

By inkedmindPublished 6 years ago 1 min read

One by one, I watch the stars start to appear

before the dark dense clouds roll over.

The moon was here, yet cannot be seen anymore

but still, I think of you somehow.

The blinking lights,

They remind me of dancing fireflies.

Waiting for the dawn that hasn't arrived - so

they can flicker home.

The lull of grass swaying to the wind,

is enough to focus on within the darkness.

Leaves whistling, they whirl overhead

And yet somehow, I'm still thinking of you

Bluebird, that's following me now

Why does your song remind me of a time that never was?

I wish that I could keep your songs tucked into

the safety of my pocket,

as you sing your memories of a time that used to be

Bluebird, why are you leaving so soon? Flying

higher, as if the sky didn't end.

I wish I could follow you up there, sailing amongst the fireflies

instead, I'll hold your songs

tucked into my heart

so I can remember you.

Silent nights now, where the emptiness stretches out,

even the fireflies have grown tired, and fallen asleep

and I can no longer hear the rustle of leaves

left behind in your wake

The hushed tones of the wind

carry the oncoming rain, and then

I somehow think of you again.
