Blue Monday

An Ekphrastic Sonnet

Monday, familiar and contemptible

Quick to anger and slow to understand

You are as proud as you are ignoble

Your flesh is common and your costume grand

You make the money changer your high priest

An ignoramus runs all of your schools

The thief who purloins from those who have least

You anoint as the author of the rules

You are too ignorant to try knowing

Each of your failures, you call a success

Perfidious, proud, pompous and preening

You are a study in worthless excess

One thing prevents you from eating all hope:

Tuesday will come; until then, we can cope

Ekphrastic

What a perfect way to describe Monday. Well done.

Haha, love the sass in this one! Monday gets a solid roasting here, but it's got a nice twist at the end—Tuesday swooping in like a hero!

I’ll be coping with a little more tequila for a while. Looking forward to that Tuesday, despite the hangover

Black Tuesday? Let's remain optimistic. I, of course, have New Order in my head now for the rest of the day. Deftly done! Is this the first of 2025?

  • Oooo, I learnt a new word from you today, ignoble. Loved your poem!
